4 Benefits of Roller Setting Hair

What are the benefits of roller setting hair?  What is the big deal?  It seems like the buzz going around the internet these days is all about roller setting.

Whether your hair is relaxed or natural, there are a lot of benefits and everyone should want to try them!

Still, why not just blow dry and curl or flat iron?  Check my 4 favorite benefits below.

1.  Less Heat

One of the best benefits of roller setting is that it allows you to style your hair in a way that eliminates direct heat.  Since the only heat you'll be using comes from a hooded dryer, your hair never comes into contact with the direct heat of an appliance.

Additionally, when using the hooded dryer, you can adjust the temperature settings to what you prefer.  Some people even avoid the indirect heat of the hooded dryer and simply use the cool setting.  The cool setting will increase the time it takes for your hair to dry.

If you do decide to use the cool setting, try using a medium setting for the first 15 minutes to give your hair drying a head start.

2.  Curls that Hold

Roller sets are probably the best way to achieve curls that hold.  This is especially important if your hair relaxed bone straight.  The chemicals that cause relaxers to work are removing curl from the hair  and thus making it difficult to get the curl that you want back in.

Using heat tools for this is one option where the hair will hold if using high heat and a styling spray.  However, roller sets are a much, much healthier option!

When hair is wet, it can be molded into whatever shape you desire.  Since it's in that shape from wet to dry, it tends to hold the shape longer than a dry heat style would.  With roller sets, you most likely won't even need to re-roll your hair at night.

3.  Moisturized Hair

Another one off the awesom benefits of roller setting is that they help to keep your hair healthy by sealing in moisture.  Since you're styling your hair while it's soaking wet and then drying it over time, the water and moisturizers have a chance to sink in.

If you've tried a roller set, I'm sure you have been able to tell the difference.  The hair feels softer and moisturized versus hard and dry.

When roller setting, the best tip I learned recently is to use a spray moisturizing leave-in conditioner instead of a setting lotion.  Setting lotions can sometimes lead to dryness which defeats the purpose of the roller set.

Use leave-in conditioner instead.  You can use it full-strength or diluted.  Lately, I've been using Motions Leave-in Conditioner full strength and it has been amazing at depositing moisture into my hair during a roller set.

4.  Bouncy/Full Hair (body & fullness)

For those of you with fine or thin hair, roller sets are your answer!!  Whereas blowdrying and flat ironing can often times lead you with flat, dry hair, roller sets are just the opposite.

Here's why:  when you roller set, you're setting rollers at different positions all over your hair directly from the scalp.  This is causing volume.

Instead of your hair being blow straight down like a blow dryer, your hair dries somewhat going "out."  A longer lasting effect than flipping your head over and swinging your hair around!  (I wouldn't recommend that!)

Now for those of you who already have plenty of volume and don't consider this a benefit of roller setting - don't fear!  You have options, too.

Simply wrap your hair and place saran wrap around it. Go back under the dryer for 10-15 minutes.  Voila.  Silky smooth hair with less volume. Less Heat
