Bleach Soaked Color "Correction"
by Ava
(Concord, NH)
To all of you natural blonds out there, cherish your natural color! I made a huge mistake playing with permanent box black hair dye, which washed me out & on top of that an allergic reaction! Anyhow, after 3 days I couldn't take it anymore, so I called around to several different salons requesting a last minute color correction. Well, what happened next will always haunt me.
The stylist didn't tell me how we were going to remove the dye. She just put my head under the sink & the proceeded to use a bleach soak of 30 volume! She then went outside to smoke a cigarette & left the bleach on too long (in my opinion). I would never have let her use bleach especially not that strength since being 24 years old I did once experiment with bleach. Mind you I also had virgin midback length hair. Two inches, a bad bleach experience & a demi permanent color later I had extreme breakage & extremely high maintenence hair. I had no choice but to cut the hair to right above my chin & start new. I never wanted to cut my hair!
Being a long haired girl all my life, this & still is a horribly traumatizing experience to go through if you're not ready to cut your treasured locks! Ladies take note, bleach=bad news no matter how you use the damn stuff! Stay away from it! Now what I could have done was use dish soap to wash the black dye out to a semi lighter color (not black) & lived with it! Live & learn!
