Brillo pad for hair

by Constance
(Denver, Colorado)

Since I can remember, my hair has ALWAYS been thick. I've had box perms most of my life before I got my hair professionally relaxed. I had a box perm 5 weeks before my first professional relaxer. My first professional relaxer was great! My hair had bounce, and it flowed! I loved how the stylist made my hair function so much, that I scheduled a wash and set every other week and a relaxer when needed with her.

Well, since that first professional relaxer, my hair has been breaking off so much that everyone I knew noticed it. I would get a box perm every 4-5 weeks for years and I haven't ever had something like that happen.

The first time I noticed it was when I got my hair professionally relaxed 13 weeks later. I lost inches, it was thin, I was starting to get small bald spots, and my hair didn't keep curls like it used to. It was really broken.

So, after that, I just started taking care of my hair myself like I used to, to try and restore it to the healthy stage it was before I got it professionally done. It's been REALLY hard. My hair looks like a Brillo pad!!!

What do I do? I wash my hair once a week, use a leave in conditioner mixed with Jojoba oil, moisturize my scalp with conditioner/hair oil, put a shower cap on for 30 minutes, and let it air dry. That's how I used to do it before my professional relaxer, and my hair grew like wild flowers and was healthy. I am so lost!!!!! (I use Carol's daughter shampoos and oils/conditioners.)

Pay attention to styling also
by: Nina D, Editor

It sounds like you're doing a good job with deep conditioning. Now, it may be good to pay attention to your styling. Limit heat styles and roller set instead.

Moisturize your hair at night.
