Difference in product use?

(The Netherlands( city almelo))
Hai Nina,
I am so so happy to find your site. My name is Angela and am 21 years old. I live in the Netherlands(europe). It's very hard to find good information about taking care of relaxed or natural hair.
My hair has been damaged because I got the wrong information. It's a relief to read and learn from your knowledge. Alot of products for black hair are very hard to find around here. My stylist told me that I should use black products for my hair like olive oil, at one products, because the products in the supermaket and most salons are made for European hair. Is this true?
I would like to use John Frieda hairline but am wondering if it's good for my relaxed hair. Alot of the products you mention, I cant buy here.
Please do help.
I will definitely visit your site on a regular basis. I really never liked my African hair..because i never knew how to maintain and manage it.. so I will follow your advice Nina. What you are doing is really great.
God bless and hope to read more of you in the future.
Greetings
Angela
P.S cant send you a picture because am using a public computer.

Nina's Response
Hi Angela,
The person who told you that the products are "made" for European hair is wrong. I know many African Americans who use regular drugstore products that are not marketing to them and have wonderful results, myself included.
My suggestion to you is to go ahead and try the John Frieda line. There are shampoos and conditioners specifically for curly hair that probably have a good moisture level for your hair.
The cool thing about being able to try products from the supermarket or drugstore is that the products are much cheaper so if they don't work, you will not have wasted much money.
Also, give the products a try several times before deciding if they work well or not. Sometimes we write off a product after the first try when maybe there was something else in the technique of styling that made it seem as if the products don't work.
Pay attention to how your hair feels after you rinse out the shampoo. Notice how well the conditioner penetrates your hair and helps you to detangle it. How well does your hair feel after you rinse out the conditioner?
Those questions should help you determine if the products are working well or not.
Good luck to you!
