Dry Scalp

I have an extremely dry and flaky scalp. Do I need some type of oil to ensure that my scalp doesn't remain dry? Also, is there anything that can be done to stop a receding hairline?

Dry Scalp Treatments

There are a few things you can try for your dry scalp.

*When you shampoo your hair, make sure you use a moisturizing conditioner and massage your fingers into your scalp to make sure you get all of the flakes as well as moisturize your scalp at the same time.
*When you condition your hair, also use a moisturizing conditioner and massage it into your scalp the same way. Rinse thoroughly.
*After you apply your leave-in conditioner, take a very light oil (like grapeseed oil
or jojoba oil
) and you can apply it one of two ways. 1) rub into your hands and fingertips and then massage into your scalp or 2)dip your finger in the oil and part your hair and oil your scalp. Depending on your level of dryness, one of those should work.
*During the week, do the above again. I do not recommend using any type of grease because you want to allow your scalp to breathe.

Other things you can do have to do with body health:
*Supplement your diet with flax seed oil
(liquid will provide more than pills) or eat fish like salmon.
*Drink plenty of water.

Regarding your receding hairline, there are a few things you can do:
1. Avoid wearing tight hairstyles. Make sure your ponytails are loose and any updos are also loose.
2. Do not use drying styling products on your hairline like hair gels that get hard.
3. If you have a receding hairline, I would avoid braids completely. Braids can contribute to a receding hairline.

You can also try a temple balm product. ORS makes a great one called ORS Temple Balm
.
