Essential Oils for Acne
A Natural Treatment
Essential oils for acne treatment have for the past few years gained in popularity. In fact many commercial specialty stores have incorporated them in their regular skin care products. The benefit of using oils instead of the commercial lotions and creams is that there are different ways of delivering the ingredients to the skin depending on which method is the most effective for that person.
The varied delivery methods are important because acne affects not only preteens and teenagers but many adults with different skin types. Essential oils to treat acne problems may be applied through steam treatments, applying them directly or combining the essential oils with skin tonics or with base oils like almond or jojoba oil.
There are many essential oils that are remedies for acne; these are not the same kinds of fatty oils that clog pores. Essential oils, in fact, are absorbed well by the skin and in so doing are able to perform their tasks in helping heal or prevent acne better. Essential oils that treat acne can either oxygenate skin cells which impede bacterial growth, have antiseptic qualities that kill bacteria or help reduce sebum.
Lavender, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree oils have antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties that help in healing acne. Geranium and lemon essential oils have astringent properties that reduce or dry up the extra sebum therefore it prevents further breakouts of pimples.
Chamomile on the other hand is both an antiseptic and an anti inflammatory. This would work best with healing the acne because it can reduce the inflammation and kill the bacteria.
There are still more essential oils for acne treatment; the ones mentioned are just the most common. Be sure to research thoroughly the essential oil you will be using and match it to your current needs.
