Going All Natural Resolved My "Fuzzy Head" Problem
by Leslie
(Ithaca, NY, USA)
Years ago, I used to color my long hair on a regular basis, at least every five weeks. I went to a trendy, expensive salon and had my color done with a very expensive salon color. I went religiously to have my long hair done, because long hair is so challenging to color, I didn't want to do it at home. I mean, it’s not easy getting color all the way down the hair in an even manner and with out getting it all over the sink, floor, clothes and rugs. I had a wonderful colorist who mixed a custom color for me, from three Redkin colors.
I loved the brown-red color, but over time my head began to look fuzzy. You know what I mean, split ends and whispy waves of short broken hair sticking out all over the place. What a mess. My hair was starting to look just horrible. I tried the expensive salon conditioner my colorist recommended. It helped, but did not resolve the problem. My head looked fuzzy! I went from store to store trying to find a quick fix for the problem. I tried other types of conditioners and gloss and gel and all kinds of glue like stuff to hold my hair down.
The truth was that beautiful salon hair color was causing my hair to break off. That color was just too harsh. I could try to glue the broken hair down and make my head smooth again or I could admit there was a problem and look for the cause of my fuzzy head. I finally had to give up the harsh color and, as much as I hated to, I gave up my trips to the salon as well. My salon did not have any all natural products and my colorist was not interested in getting the products in or learning how to use them. Honestly, how hard could it be? Could it be that different from chemical colors? I was about to find out. I could not find a salon that used all natural color, so I started doing my hair at home.
I found that health food stores carry a few brands of all natural vegetable based colors. I went home and tried the first one. It felt OK, my hair was soft and shiny after I colored it. It wasn’t harsh, but the color wasn’t very nice. The next one felt OK as well, and was mild too, but the color faded really fast. It just didn’t last long enough. Finally I found a web site for a salon in New York City that advertised all natural color so I tried it. Ecocolors is the name and the formula is really all natural. It works good, fades maybe a bit faster than the all chemical colors, but I don't mind. My hair is not breaking like it used to. I also switched to all natural shampoo and conditioner from Young Living Essential Oils. It's working really well, is all natural and smells divine. My hair is healthy again.
