Hair Care Styling Tools

Learning what hair care styling tools you need and how to choose the best ones are important to beginning your long healthy hair journey. While starting a hair care journey with the right tools can pose a cost upfront, if you choose the best and the right tools in the beginning, you will save a lot of money in the long run!

Let's find out what hair care styling tools you need to get started.

Blow Dryer

You'll need a blow dryer should you choose to blow dry your hair occasionally. You can use the same blow dryer in a variety of ways.

You can get a diffuser attachment to use for curly styling. You can also get a comb attachment for straight hair styling.

Make sure to get a blow dryer that has multiple heat settings - preferable 3 settings of Low, Medium, and High. An ionic conditioning hair dryer is a good choice to look for when choosing a dryer.

Blow Dryer with Comb Attachment

In addition to a regular blow dryer, I prefer to have a blow dryer specifically made for straight hair styling. Though I don't use it often, it does come in handy when I need it. These are great tools for long hair keeping your arms from getting tired.

You should use this type of blow dryer, when after you have air dried and wish to straighten and completely dry before curling or flat ironing.

You should only use the wide-tooth comb attachment and make sure your hair is detangled before-hand. These dryers also come in ionic form.  Read my article on the easy way to blow dry hair.

Most recently I purchased a Chi Rocket Ionic Hair Dryer.  Check out my review of the Chi Rocket Hair Dryer.

Hood Dryer

hair-care-styling-tools-05A hooded dryer is the absolute must-have of all hair care styling tools! Hood dryers range in cost from $30 to $300 for a professional one.

In my experience, the cheaper versions work just fine. Choose a hood dryer that has a large enough hood to hold very large rollers.

You also want something that is adjustable to your height and what type of chair you are using with it. As with most heat tools, it's important to have variable heat settings.  Click here to read my article on hooded dryers.

Soft Bonnet Dryer

hair-care-styling-tools-04An option to the hood dryer is getting a soft bonnet dryer. I do not recommend getting the plastic bonnet attachment that works with a hair dryer or the kind that comes in the case. In my experience they do not last very long and don't work very well.

I would recommend that you find a soft bonnet ionic dryer with the inflatable hood. Hair care styling tools have advance by becoming more convenient and even portable! They works very well for roller sets allowing you to relax on the couch or even take a nap! These may be difficult to find in a store but you can easily find them online.

Curling Iron

hair-care-styling-tools-06You'll want to have a curling iron in your hair care arsenal even though you may not use it very often. You should have one with variable heat options.

You don't need to spend a lot of money on a curling iron. You will mostly use it to occasionally bump your ends under - after a fresh washing and conditioning, of course!

Ceramic Flat Iron

hair-care-styling-tools-07Spend a lot of time carefully choosing a really good flat iron. You want one with smooth plates so that it will not snag your hair.  Here's an article on choosing the best flat iron for hair.

It's also nice to get one that is smaller rather than larger because this will help you get closer to your roots. The larger ones can be a little difficult to maneuver.

There are a lot of flat irons on the market today that have the ability to curl and flip hair. I would recommend choosing one of these as it will allow you to avoid using the curling iron on the ends of your hair after flat ironing. My personal favorite flat iron is the Sedu.    Here's an article on straightening black hair with a ceramic flat iron.

These are major hair care styling tools you'll need to get started. If you do some comparison and bargain shopping, I am sure you can find good quality tools within your budget!
