Hair Stylists
What They Do to Annoy Us
Is it possible to find hair stylists who treat you and your hair with respect? This list is just to show you that you're not alone in dealing with some of the annoyances we face when visiting salons for hair appointments. What should be a relaxing, enjoyable experience sometimes turns into an experience that we can't wait to forget!

- Being rough when combing out your hair
- Piling your hair on top of your hair when shampooing
- Not combing through the conditioner
- Burning you with the blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, etc.
- Spraying hair spray when you've just had a fresh relaxer
- Not rinsing out your relaxer when you tell them it's burning
- Making you wait 2 hours before they acknowledge you
- Eating lunch while you're patiently waiting
- Forgetting you while you're under the dryer even though it cut off 30 minutes ago
- Telling you that you need to relax your hair to make their job easier
- Trimming more than you asked for
- Saying they know how to cut your hair into a style when they really don't
- Squeezing your in for an appointment without your knowledge
- Taking walk-ins or emergency clients without regards to your time
- Having too many people work on your hair during the course of the visit
- Clients' kids running around
- Stylist leaving the location without saying anything to you while you're waiting patiently.
- Talking on the phone constantly
- Not cleaning tools prior to using them on your hair
- Not alerting you as to what types of products they are using on your hair
- Not telling you how to care for your hair at home
- Not evaluating your hair before beginning services
- Not consulting with you prior to any treatments to go over expectations
- Charging more than they originally told you they would
- Giving you layers when you didn't ask for them (because you're trying to grow them out!)
- Letting water go down your ears, shirt, neck, etc.
- Using multiple heat tools in one sitting: blow dryer, pressing comb, flat iron.
- Relaxing more than just new growth
- Trimming hair in a lazy fashion - not section by section
- Giving you to another stylist when you made an appointment with them.
My hope is that as more of us become educated about our own hair care, we will be less likely to put up with poor treatment from stylists. Thus, hair stylists will eventually change their ways. A girl can hope, can't she?
If you really want to find a good hair dresser you can. Here's an article on how to choose a hair stylist. I also have an article on do-it-yourself hair care.
