Getting My Hair to Grow Longer
|
|
I really wanted my hair to grow longer but with my current hair care practices, it just wasn't happening.
Right before I entered high school, my mom got a recommendation for an Egyptian stylist. She visited him a few times and really liked him. She took me to visit him for a relaxer touch-up. My hair was reformed!! I remember walking out of that salon thinking that this was the hair that I always wanted! |
I had finally found someone who could do my hair and do it well. I continued to visit this stylist throughout high school. Along the way, I learned a little bit about styling my own hair and caring for it better than I had before.
I finally got my hair to grow longer and by senior year, it was at bra strap length. It was so beautiful, long, and healthy. But being a teenager, I couldn't just let that be enough.
My stylist was great for relaxer touch-ups and styling my hair straight but didn't really know a lot about new hair styles. So, I decided to visit my sister's stylist for a hair cut.
I wanted it shorter in the front gradually longer in the back curled under kind of deal. I remember explaining to the stylist what I wanted and her expressing that she didn't understand what I wanted. I guess since she didn't understand my idea, she decided to come up with her own long hair cut idea and try it out on me! She proceeded to snipped, snipped, and snipped my hair into a style that I SO did not want!
Being a meek, shy teenager who didn't know how to speak up for herself to anyone (especially not a stylist), I let her do it, I thanked her and walked out of the salon like I had gotten exactly what I wanted.
I had finally learned how to grow my hair long and now my hair was super short on top and still long in the back. How on earth would I grow my hair longer again?
I didn't know but I tried not to dwell on it too much. I got open-mouth reactions from people at school that I had cut my hair so short on top. Of course, I acted as if I got exactly what I wanted and was happy with it. My official high school graduation pictures are an awful reminder of that horrible hair style. (It wasn't horrible, just wasn't what I wanted.)
All I wanted was to grow my hair longer again.
