Haircare while deployed

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan. With the exception of daily styling, I have never taken care of my own hair until now. My hair is in a state of transition because I don't dare try to relax it myself.

I notice that my hair is now the most dry it has ever been. I wash my hair once a week using Joico Moisture Recovery shampoo and conditioner and 2 leave-in conditioners (Design Essentials and PCA). I blow dry my hair on the cool setting and sleep in a satin bonnet.

Fortunately the amount of breakage I have is not tremendous, but I know that if I don't properly moisturize things will likely change rather quickly.

What products/techniques do you recommend help retain moisture and detangle?

Also deployed in Baghdad
by: Melissa

Hey there. I am somewhat having the same problem. I was natural when I got here but I relaxed my hair myself with an Optimum because they didnt have Olive Oil ORS. BUT I use STA SOF FRO and it is amazing for natural hair. It softens and is not greasy. I also use S-Curl the spray. Even now that my hir is relaxed it is a great moiturizer. After I seal my ends with Oil. Here is a AMAZING site to help you! It is great. I am also wearing wigs to keep my hair protected from the heat and sand. I dont know if you are still deployed but...

Moisturizers

Are you using any moisturizers in addition to the leave-in conditioners? Make sure to use a cream leave-in conditioner - my favorite is Salerm 21. Also, check out Carol's Daughter products for Healthy Hair Butter and Hair Milk to provide more moisture for your transitioning locks!
