Horrendous Highlights!

My sister-in-law was once my stylist. Notice that I said, "once," as in previously and certainly not any more. Although she can style the heck out of hair, she is not so great at keeping it healthy or instructing clients on how to keep their hair healthy at home.

For the most part, I've always been able to keep my hair healthy on my own. However, after my sister-in-law highlighted my hair, the story changed quite a bit. Initially, I loved my highlights and thought they looked great--that is, until after the first wash and style at home left my hair feeling and looking like rotten hay. My sister-in-law failed to tell me that I should deep condition my highlighted hair to keep it healthy. I just washed and conditioned it as usual. After about 2 weeks, my hair began to break and fall out drastically. It was an absolute nightmare!

When I went to my sister-in-law to show her my hair and discuss the problem, her response was, "I thought you had highlights before. I thought you knew how to take care of it." After refraining myself from "slapping the kuckoo" out of her, I said, "You never, ever assume that someone knows how to take care of something. You know what is said about assuming. You should give your clients care instructions regardless." She apologized, but it was obviously far too late for sorry. Sorry didn't keep my hair from falling out for the next few weeks. I ended up having to cut my hair very short in order to grow it back out healthy. The experience definitely left me very leery of ever getting highlights again.
