Hot Water or Cold Water?

by Nina, Editor LHHA

When washing your hair, it is best to use warm to medium hot water in order to effectively remove dirt and build-up. Try not to use too hot water because well, it's just uncomfortable and you don't want to scald your scalp.

I know you all have heard about doing a final rinse in cold water so that it seals the cuticle and adds shine. I must say that I have never tried this. I am too afraid to have cold water blasting over my head and body while I'm in the shower. I will typically do a lukewarm rinse which feels wonderful!

Has anyone tried this? Did you notice a difference in your hair? Did your hair cuticle feel sealed? Did you notice more shine?

tip to do the COLD rinse in a HOT shower!
by: michelle

I also dread cold water anywhere near me let alone my head!!!
However I do the cold rinse in my WARM/HOT shower at the same time...yep
Here is how:
I basically keep my warm/hot water running in the shower, and fill a jug with cold water from the sink nearby.
I stand under the stream of warm/hot water making sure I am warm with the warm/hot water hitting the back of neck/ my back. + shoulder and runnin down below etc.
I lean my head forward - basically stick my neck out of the warm/hot stream of water and lean forward- and pour the cold water from the jug over my head ONLY. So the cold water hits my scalp and runs down to the shower floor (at the same time as the warm/hot water is hitting + warming the rest of my body.)
All that gets cold is my scalp , and it doesn't last long as the warm/hot water is running over me down from the back of my neck, down my back and all over the back of my body.
I believe this counters that cold feeling you would get if you turned on the cold shower! and I do not get a chill!
Try it.
Remeber keep your body warm with the shower running warm - do not turn it off!
Only cold water in the jug and over your head- no where else.

I hope this makes sense, and helps!

Cold Rinse
by: Ketha

I just washed, conditioned, and put a hair masque(I have color-treated hair) on my hair last night. My final rinse was cold, and afterwards, I greased my scalp, applied mousse, rolled my hair up, and let dry overnight. My hair came out looking very healthy and shiny! And the curls looked beautiful too. (I just learned the technique to make spiral curls with small rollers off a youtube video, and wanted to try it because it looked to so pretty. lol) I don't really know if there's a difference than if I do a warm final rinse, but the cold rinse worked just fine and I've done it for about two weeks now.

I have noticed that when I rinse the conditioner out of my hair with cold water, my hair is shinier.
