How to Wrap Black Hair
The Cross-Wrap Method
Learning how to wrap black hair can help you keep a silky straight style for longer than you'd usually be able to. This option also offers the ability to protect your hair at night.
So, let's get on with it. I'm going to show you how I wrap my hair when I wear it straight. This is not the most typical way that people wrap their hair but I find it easier and more healthy. Let's take a look at what I do step by step.
Step 1The first thing you need to do is divide your hair in half like this. |
Step 2Concentrate on one side at a time. In this photo, I'm concentrating on the left-hand side. Take that side and pull it around to your forehead. Try not to disturb the hair and the part too much.
Step 3Now you want to take a hair clip and clip the hair down. When you look at the side of the hair, it should look like this. See how the hair is not disturbed too much? |
Step 4The right-hand side of hair now remains to be wrapped. Looking at the hair from the back, you can see how the left-side is loosely wrapped around and not combed around unlike regular wrapping. Easy so far, huh?
Step 5Now you want to do the same thing to the right-hand side of hair. Take it and gently swing it around to your forehead in the opposite direction. |
Step 6When you get to the frong of your hair, depending on how long it is, it should meet up with the other hair that was pinned. |
Step 7Adjust the hair in the front along with the other hair. Pin up the right-hand side of hair. It should lok very neat and uniforn like this picture. |
Step 8Take a look at the back and it should also look nice and neat like the pictures. Once you see that it's neat, you want to take a satin or silk hair scarf and tie it around your hair so that it stays. Now you've learned how to wrap black hair with a really easy method! |

When you take your hair down the next day or after a few hours, it should look something like this picture. You will have lost some of the curl but it will still have a slight curl at the bottom similar to a traditional wrap.
Advantages to Cross-Wrapping Hair
So what are the advantages to a cross-wrap over a regular wrap or doobie?
- There is not as much stress on the hair because you do not have to comb or brush it around and around.
- There is no stress on the hairline or edges. Many people begin to experience thinness when they wrap their hair continuously with the traditional method.
- It's easier. Some people have a lot of difficulties in wrapping their hair and just can't seem to get it quite right. Additionally, it is more difficult to wrap hair the longer it is. With a cross-wrap, it works really well with longer hair.
Now that you know how to wrap black hair with a cross-wrap, I hope that you consider giving it a try following my step-by-step instructions. I am sure that you'll find the method pretty easy to adapt to your hair and will give you an alternative to the regular wrapping or doobie method.
