I need help....LOL

by Tina
(Rohester, ny)

Recently I stopped wearing weaves and I decided to wear my hair. Before I decided to do that I would wear sew-ins all the time I would take one out and get another done that same day or the next.

When I was tired of wearing sew-ins I would get micro braids a lot. In November, I decided that I wanted to grow my own hair and get it back healthy.

For the first month it was no problem. I got a relaxer and everything was fine. In Dec I got another relaxer (I know it was to soon but my hair was really unmanageable). After about two weeks I noticed that my hair started shedding to the extreme. It shedded to the point that I was embarrassed and would not wear any light colored shirts.

I started washing and conditioning it with Motions CPR (critical protection repair) products every week but for the first two days it would be ok and then after that it would start shedding really bad again. I explained what was going on to a friend at work and she referred me to her stylist. I did notice that her hair was really healthy.

So I then finally decided to go to a stylist in feb (I don't know why I didn't try sooner). She noticed that the edges on the left side of my hair, the front edges, and the left side of the nape area was gone it had completely fell out. By that time I was scared to relax it, but I let her and she did trim it.

For the first week it was fine no shedding it had a gloss without me putting anything in it and everything was fine. Now I'm in my second week and it started shedding again, not as bad but it's noticeable. It seems as if nothing will stop it. please tell me what I should do I'm am going crazy.

Tender Loving Care is needed
by: Nina D, Edtior

Hi Tina,

I'm sorry you're having these problems!

I think your hair is shedding because it is weak. And it's weak b/c it is over processed and stressed.

If you're going to continue with relaxers, I would suggest that you stick to a timeframe of 8 weeks at the earliest. You have to give your hair a chance to grow so that there is hair to relax. Ideally, this should be at least 1 inch to avoid overlapping hair that has already been relaxed.

In the meantime, you should sleep with a satin scarf so that your hair is not rubbed on your pillow at night.

Also, choose low-maintenance hair styles where you simply pin your hair up daily. I think wearing it down right now could cause additional stress by allowing the hair to tangle.

When you wash and condition your own hair, make sure you are not washing roughly. Just gently use your fingers. Use warm/hot water - not hot water. Use a wide-tooth comb.

Your hair is in need of tender loving care. Treat it as delicate silk and it will recover in time. The most important thing is not to give up!
