I thought you had a license????

Where do I begin? I relocated from the south to the mid-Atlantic a few years ago. I knew that I was going experience some stress because of different climate, change in environment, food, water etc, etc.

Within 30 days, I saw a dramatic change in my hair (falling out)and knew I needed assistance. Naturally you have to experience a couple of so-called licensed hairdresser/beauticians before you find one that meets your needs. Initially, I figure it shouldn't be hard, because these Black women were walking around here with BEAUTIFUL heads of hair, and not all of them was wearing weaves, either. And I needed to get with the program. This wasn't an easy or pleasant experience.

Fast forward...I started a new job closer to home after being here for year and half, and was on my 5th beautician. Wasn't that pleased with her, but I thought she was the best out of the others. Well, one of my co-workers, whose hair was naturally hers, always healthy and beautiful caught my attention, and of course, I inquired and decided to try her hairdresser. Naturally, the initial appointment is a wash n'set. It turn out pretty good and decided to give her a chance (here I go... AGAIN).

After being with her for about 6 or 7 weeks, it was time for a touch-up, nervous, but OK I need one. The touch up turned out well. She then informs me that I need to get my ends trimmed, not a problem for me, b/c I understand the needs of getting rid of dead/split ends. Now, I've already went from almost shoulder length hair to probably 3 to4 inches of hair all the way around since the move. I believe when she cut the back of my hair, she made a mistake, and had to fix it, and ended up cutting off almost all of the back of my hair, not even an inch was back there, but my sides still had about 3 inches of hair, and she said "don't worry, we'll start all over and it will grow back healthy"..I'm like here we go..

Well a couple weeks later I inquired about a protein treatment and wanted to know how it would benefit my hair, since my hair was not healthy at all and since I'm starting all over, and she specialized in total hair care. I'm like lets do this right..She explained how it works and said she gives a minimum of 6 weeks of protein treatments, and it was an extra $10.00 a week. Never bothered to say, you have to have a moisturizer treatment with it or after it, or something regarding any type of extra moisture..NOTHING! I'm trusting her, didn't know this either, (maybe I could have researched it more, but I didn't) but her business card says, "Specializing In Total Hair Care". I said maybe this will help.

Well, during my treatments my hair was beginning to look dryer than before, I would ask her on weekly basis, is there something I need to do extra? She would put extra oil sheen on it, and I forbid her to use hairspray on my head..After the 6 week treatment, (hair dry as hell) my hair began to fall out in noticeable small amounts.. My husband now, asked me, why was he seeing my scalp, and I'm going to the hairdresser EVERY week?? I'm trying to give this sister a chance to do her "specializing work", this is her hair salon, she is the owner, been in the business for 20+ years, but whenever I ask her something, she would tell me I'm not doing this or that, or I must be stressing about something. I'm like, you see me EVERY week, you haven't seen the change in my hair since the protein treatment? and why do I have to ask you questions, a good beautician will inquire about changes in your hair, whether bad or good, especially a client that comes EVERY week faithfully..

Needless to say after a couple more months a giving this sister a chance, and after an embarrassing statement she made in front of of clients (because she is loud), when I was inquiring about my hair, yet again, she stated I can't keep cutting your hair, b/c we need it to grow, I said, "you have put scissors near my head since January and this is July, being that my hair is down to inch on the top and sides,now..she hesitated, like OMG!! something is wrong. Then she proceeded to say something like, well your hair isn't all that anyway. That was my last time I saw her.

I next, went to a JC Penny's person, that was a disaster, I came out looking like a grease monkey, after I told her my hair doesn't hold grease very well, because my hair is now fine and thin. I gave up for about a month and decided to try once again.

Now, I finally found a beautician by coincidence. Just calling around in the city that I lived in , once again, looking for one. Well, one of them called me back, and I said why not. I made an appointment, and went to see her later that week. In spite of her having 5 clients before me when I arrived, and 4 after me, when it was my turn to sit in her chair, she introduce herself, and asked me to give the history on my hair. I knew then, I was going to like her, because she took the time to ask about my hair history, she asked certain questions.

She asked if I had a moisturizer treatment after the protein treatment, and I asked what was that, because I didn't know at that time. And she took the time to explain. She took care of my hair like it was her own. It not only came out healthy and beautiful, she actually showed she cared, and I was out of there in less than 3 hours. And all of her clients that I witnessed?? Their hair was fabulous!! I'm like this is where these women come with the beautiful hair.

I'm am well on my way to getting my shoulders length hair back and healthy than before. I've going to her for about 4 almost fives months, and I have 4 inches of hair. I'm happy! But what a journey.

Talk about a nightmare..
