Kinky Roller Set

by Kim
(New Haven, CT)

I am learned how to roller set my own hair. It is short and relaxed. I use very small plastic rollers and use hair pins to secure them. I use setting lotion and roll it while wet so the hair is smooth against the roller. However, when it starts drying, my hair becomes very kinky and wavy around the roller and the end result is a frizzy mess. What am I doing wrong?

Roller Set
by: Nina, Editor LHHA

Hi Kim,

Are you making sure that your hair is secure around the roller? Meaning not a lot of looseness? Because if there's looseness, the hair will just try to unstretch itself.

Also, make sure you aren't using too much setting lotion. It can make your hair hard.

Make sure you are not putting too much hair on one roller. With short hair, you will need a lot of small rollers.

Another thing to try is using the plastic magnetic rollers with the caps. You may be able to get those more secure and keep your hair smoother against the roller.

I hope this helps!
