Long to Gone
by Charise

I found out this story from my mother. She told it to me when I expressed my desire to get my hair down to mid chest level. She told me it used to be, I most likely just blocked it out from the trauma and disappointment or just plain forgot.
It happened when I went to go visit my Grandparents when I was younger. I usually had my hair braided and for some reason on this visit I did not. My grandmother cannot do hair. I would underline that twice, bold, and put it in italics and then jack up the font size a few times.
She took me to a stylist and I am not sure what the person did but when I got back home my hair was so damaged and broken that my mother had to cut my mid chest length hair to about an inch. The worst part was that I was only there for maybe a week or just the weekend. Lost so much in so little time. Think boot camp hair cut for men and add an inch.
Yeah, I am pretty sure I blocked it out because of the trauma. My mother still regrets it and says my hair would have been down my back after I finished high school. I am still trying to get my hair back to that length now and I am 26. My hair was traumatized by it also, it refuses to go past a certain point. Once it gets to a certain point it refuses to go any further and also refuses to take perms.
