Mad hairdresser horror!

by Eusebia
(U.K. Cambridge)

So after having braids for a while I decided to relax my hair because I like handling my own hair. I usually went to a salon downtown specially for black styles but I heard a new salon for black women had open and I decided to try it out. The hairdresser seemed nice and experienced so I thought things would turn out good. Boy was I wrong!

The hairdresser relaxed my hair and she said the longer I waited the softer my hair would be so I waited and waited. It was starting to itch and burn quite badly but I waited because in my head I was thinking if I just wait a little bit longer and I will reap the benefits.

So after a very long wait my relaxer got washed out and it didn't seem softer than when I had it done at the other salon but it looked fine. So a week passed and I noticed that a lot of hair fell out when I combed my hair and that my sides looked liked they had less hair but I just said to myself 'its all in my head' and continued.

Two, three weeks passed and the same happened getting shorter and shorter but I just said to myself 'its all in my head' and one day my mum and my sister and I were talking and my mum was like 'om my, what happening to your hair' and I was like 'what you talking about' and both my mum and sister started inspecting my hair which was SOOO annoying. They gave me a mirror and I realized that I had lost my hair at the sides and the nape. It looked almost like a mohawk! I was shocked, I cried and we called the hair salon.

Eventually I found out she wasn't even a qualified hairdresser and she lost her salon. I learned a lot of lessons from this, you can't just put your hair into anybody's hands; you have to pick people who are qualified, experienced and who care about your hair. The horrific experience happened over a year ago when I was 14 and my sides have grown. I plan to relax in February but I think I'll be using my original salon next time!
