Make Hair Curly with Rollers

Probably the best way to make your hair curly is to use rollers.  There are a gazillion types of rollers and perm rods that are on the market today. You can find them at beauty supply stores and even at your local drugstore or grocery store. They come in all shapes and sizes. So no matter the texture or type or length or thickness, you should be able to find rollers that work for you and your hair.

Here are some types of rollers to give you an idea:

  • Caruso Steam Rollers
  • Hot Curlers
  • Perm Rods
  • Mesh Rollers
  • Magnetic Rollers
  • Satin Sponge Rollers

Using rollers to make hair curly is a wonderful and typically healthy way to get the hair style you desire.

A few key things to help you use rollers effectively:

  • If you roll up dry hair, it will take longer to curl.  So plan on doing it at night.
  • Use larger rollers for a looser curls and smaller rollers for a tighter curl.
  • If your hair is uneven, use end papers to make it easier to roll.
  • Wet set your hair or roller set to achieve super bouncy curls.
  • Pay attention to the way you roll so that you don't tangle up your hair in the process.
  • Be careful with hot curlers as they may dry out your hair.

Curling Irons for Curly Hair

A truly easy method for getting curly hair is to simply use a curling irons. Curling irons come in all sizes from super mini ones for short hair to big barrelled ones for longer hair. Learning various techniques in using a curling iron can help you achieve a large number of curly hair styles.

  • Use a large barrelled iron for soft loose curls or for long hair.
  • Wrap your hair around the iron in a spiral fashion to produce spiral curls.
  • Bump just the ends for a nice curl at the bottom of straight hair.

A few things to remember when using curling irons:

  • Don't use them too frequently.  Just as with any heat styling tool, you run the risk of damaging your hair.
  • Use a heat protectant first!
  • Save for special occasions.
  • Make sure the iron is not too hot.
It takes a little practice but with time and patience you can learn how to get curly hair with curling irons.

Curly Perms

If your hair is super straight and you want to have a more permanent curl in your hair, you can consider curly perms.  I advise that you see a stylist and get a consultation before making this decision.  It is a permanent decision much like getting a relaxer.  You will have to grow your hair out if you wish it to no longer be curly.

Curly perms work in the opposite way that relaxers work.  Solution is applied to the hair and then it is set on perm rods depending on the size of the curls desired.

How to Get Curly Hair with Twisting and Braiding Techniques

Twisting and braiding your hair can give you wonderful curly results for straight hair.  It is also not very time consuming and your hair can be "set" overnight.

Simply braid or twist your hair all over.  Secure the ends with a roller.  You can do as many or as few braids/twists as you like.  The more braids or twists - the tighter the curls will be and vice versa.
