my hairstylist is discouraging!

So I've realized that I can't do my own hair to save my life.

I have a dry scalp apparently and it seems as though I have to wash my hair and oil my scalp once a week in order for it to grow and be fresh.

However, I HATE blow drying it but my hair is very unruly in its natural state so going natural for me is not an option. It's been about a month since I went to see my hairdresser..and when I finally went to her..she cut off almost 2 inches!
I was so angry, I don't know where I went wrong.

here is my regimen for my weekly hairdo.
wash and deep condition

blow dry in sections having applied a mix of heat protectant and leave in conditioner and allowing to air dry for 2 hours.

curl with large barrel curling iron

wrap and that's it.

I don't know how this ruined my ends to quickly..I can't do my own rollersets or get a friend to help, but I just can't go a week without doing my hair because it itches and becomes greasy...please help

Nina's Response

Hi there,

You sound very discouraged! But you shouldn't give up. Sometimes it can take a ton of trial and error before we all come up with the solution that works for our hair.

You said that you can't do rollersets. Have you tried the rollersetting method that I have on my site? Please have a look at the tutorial and give it a try.

Your regimen sounds fine to me but you may be missing a few things. How hot is the blow dryer that you are using? Does it have a comb attachment or not? Make sure you are not pulling your hair when blow drying it.

Are you taking proper care of your hair at night? Here is another page on my site that can give you some tips on taking care of your hair before bed.

Next, how damaged is your hair? If your hair is currently damaged, it may take some time to nurse it back to health. You'll want to make sure to have all split ends gone which your stylist may have already done. More about split ends and damaged hair here:

Finally, how long have you been with your hair stylist? Is it possible you may need to find a stylist who can work better with your hair and help you to achieve healthier hair? Here are some tips on how to choose a hair stylist:

I hope these help you out! Good luck with your hair.
