Natural Hair Care Regimen - Straight Hair

What is a natural hair care regimen that I can follow?  My hair is natural and I like to wear it straight.

There are many women who have curly hair who just prefer to wear their hair straight.  It could be that they don't want to deal with their curls on a daily basis or maybe they just don't feel the curls suit their personal style.  Either way, isn't it nice to have options?   A way for you to have the healthiest hair and grow it long is to condition your hair regularly and straighten your hair with roller sets.

Here is a typical regimen that you can follow.

Weekly

Use a gentle clarifying shampoo to rid your hair of all excess dirt and oils.  Shampoo with a moisturizing conditioner.  Then follow it up with a moisturizing conditioner.  Remember to comb the conditioner through and let it sit at least 15 minutes while you finish up your shower.  Rinse thoroughly.  Roller set your hair following my method here.  You can then flat iron your roots and wrap your hair to smooth out some of the curls.

Nightly

Moisturize your hair ends before putting your hair up at night.  Wear a silk or satin scarf to bed.  Wrap your hair or pin it up to keep it straight.  If you need curls, put your hair in a high ponytail and put satin covered rollers on the ends.

Daily

Gently comb your hair out and apply a tad bit of serum to give your hair some shine.  Remember to pin your hair up if you're outside and it's windy.

Bi-Weekly

Deep condition your hair.  Put on a plastic cap and sit under a warm hooded dryer for 15 minutes.

Monthly

A natural hair care regimen also includes the use of a protein conditioner to add strength back to your hair.  Sit under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes.  Rinse and apply a moisturizing conditioner.  Let sit 5 minutes and rinse.

Every 2-3 Months

Get your ends trimmed at least 1/4 of an inch.  Make sure your hair is straight and dry when you have this done.  You can go to your regular stylist or a Super Cuts.  You can also try doing it yourself by following my tips.  Learn  how to trim your own hair.

Conclusion

I hope this natural hair care regimen for straight hair has been helpful to you.  You may need to tweak it a bit to fit your personal preferences but I hope you give it a try and see how it works for you.
