Natural Hair Styling with Braid Outs

Who said natural hair styling was difficult? Braid outs are an easy way to style natural hair. A braid out is essentially braiding your hair, letting it dry, and then unraveling the braids leaving you with a very cute wavy, curly style.

1.  Washing and Conditioning

The best time to wash and condition your hair for a braid out is the previous evening. This will give your hair ample time to dry. Make sure to thoroughly condition your hair detangling with your Jilbere shower comb.

2.  Gather Your Supplies

You're going to need the following items to do your braid out:

3.  Softening

Apply your leave-in-conditioner in sections making sure to cover all hair strands. Using the same method, apply your creamy moisturizer. Don't overdo it.

4.  Sectioning & Braiding

Spray some setting lotion on each section and braid your hair from the root to the tips. You can braid tightly or loosely depending on the look you want. Tighter braiding will you give the resulting waves stronger definition while loose braiding will leave you with less definition. One of the great things about natural hair styling is how easily you can mold your hair into various shapes!

5.  Adding Rollers

A few inches before you get to the ends of your hair while braiding, stop and roll that section up. Just take a satin-covered sponge roller or another type of roller (perm rods work well, too) and roll up just a little past the braided portion. You can add some more setting lotion to this section if you think you need it. Make sure those ends are not frizzy when you roll them up or they will be frizzy when you take them down.

6.  Wrapping Up

Once you've finished braiding and rolling, you can wrap your hair in a satin scarf or bonnet. I recommend using a scarf because it will help smooth the hairline for a more polished look. You can now either sit under a dryer to dry your hair or you can simply let it air dry until the next morning.

7.  Styling Your Braid Out

natural hair stylingWhen your hair is completely dry (or almost dry), rub a little serum over your hands and proceed to remove the rollers and unravel the braids. Take your time taking them down so that you don't cause any frizz. Take all the braids down before you begin any styling.

Once they are all taken down, you can use your hands to separate the braid sections into more braid sections for the look you desire. To remove the parts that may be showing, take your hand and put it to your scalp and gently massage the hair till your parts are all covered. Now, play around with it a bit more until you get the look you desire. Add some shine spray and you're all done.

8.  Other Braid Out Option

You don't always have to wear your braid outs down. You can put your hair in a ponytail and proceed to braid out from there. For kids, you can make two ponytails. Braid outs are a very versatile natural hair styling option. Play around with it and come up with your own styles.

Good luck with creating your natural hair styles with braid outs. I am sure that you will add this option to your hair styling rotation.
