Natural Oils on Relaxed hair?

by Leah

Hi

I have relaxed hair and normally use cream moisturizers on it. But i have been stretching my relaxers for about 4 months and am finally getting a relaxer.

So, I was wondering about using natural oils (coconut oil, particularly)to moisturize, in hopes of keeping my hair bouncy and full of body for as long as i possibly can with out weighing it down. So would natural coconut oil on my relaxed hair daily keep it just as moisturized as a cream moisturizer would but still keep its body and bounce?

Thanx for all the help and your website has helped so much in the condition of my hair.

Natural Coconut Oil as a Daily Moisturizer
by: CoconutOilGuy

Natural Coconut Oil as a Daily Moisturizer? Absolutely! It's true that in most cases, oil will simply weigh your hair down. But not coconut oil.

Compared to almost all other hair oils, coconut oil has a smaller molecular structure or weight. That's because coconut oil is predominantly medium chain fatty acids (MCFA). Sebaceous glands secrete sebum to naturally keep our hair from drying and cracking. Sebum, just like coconut oil, contains MCFAs.

Long before it was discovered to possess incredible antimicrobial properties capable of killing the HIV virus (AIDS), coconut oil was already busy giving countless communities strong and beautiful hair and skin as well. Take care.

Why not serum?
by: Nina, Editor LHHA

Hi Leah,

You can definitely give coconut oil a try and see how your hair does with it but in most cases, oil will simply weigh your hair down.

I would recommend using a serum. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Healing Shine Serumis a great one to try.
