Post Partum Hair Loss
Post Partum Hair Loss: Here's the information you need on why you're experiencing after birth hair loss.
You think you are over and done with hair loss after giving birth? I’m sorry to disappoint you but it might not stop from there. Actually, it can still last from 3 to 6 months after childbirth.
Reasons for Post Pregnancy Hair Loss
Why does it happen…again? Well, there is a decrease in your hormone (estrogen) levels after pregnancy but it would return to a normal level simultaneous with the return of your new and healthy hair.
Please don’t be upset, remember that this is only temporary and you are not the only one experiencing this pregnancy-related hair loss. But just to be safe and be sure that you are doing fine, inform your doctor that you are still having the same hair loss after childbirth as there were other reproductive health issues that might cause hair loss even after pregnancy such as but not limited to:
-
Untreated thyroid disease
-
History of miscarriages
-
Discontinued use of birth control pills, oral contraceptives or other hormonal-type of medication just before pregnancy
Hair Loss - Post Partum Treatment
In normal cases, hair will grow back in time. All we need is just patience and positive thinking. You might not even notice the time passing by for you will be too busy taking care of your newborn. Or you can help yourself from regaining hormonal balance by doing some hormone-balancing acts like:
-
Getting enough sleep
-
Doing some exercise
-
Drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeine and alcohol
-
Eating foods rich in Omega 3s, Vitamin B complex and Iron
-
Laughing, as they say “Laughter is the best medicine”
By doing these, you will not only feel good but you will look good as well. You should take care of yourself as much as you take care of your baby. Just enjoy the time being with your newborn and discover a lot from each other as everything temporary will come to pass.
How Long Does Post-Partum Hair Loss Last?
Well, it varies from person to person but if your child has turned one-year old and you’re still losing a lot of hair, this could indicate a serious condition. Consult your physician again as there might be another issue causing this problem which I hope is not the case. Post partum hair loss will soon be forgotten as your hair grows back and you continue you life as a mother.
