Pressed Hair; Flat Ironing It; Split Ends

by Davina
(Bronx, New York)

Hey girrl. My name is Davina and im 15, living in the Bronx. I read your story and it was sooo good and inspirational. I just had to get some tips from you.

Well, I have that nappy natural hair and Ive been pressing my hair for about 4 years now and it doesn't seem to be growing much. Its been at my shoulder blades for a while now and I don't really understand why. I get it done about every 3 weeks, and in between those three weeks I "grease my scalp" once every week and I wrap it every night. I believe my problem is that I usually flat iron it like every other day so it stays straight (especially when i had bangs)
I haven't really been flat ironing it anymore but its still dry ..... and i have split ends.

Wanna help me out ???

Hi Davina,

Flat ironing your hair every other day is not going to lead to healthy hair! So, you have to stop that immediately. I would suggest that you have your hair done at least every 2 weeks. Do not grease your scalp but instead moisturize your ends prior to wrapping. If you are wrapping your hair nightly, you should not need to flat iron your hair every other day!

First thing you need to do is get rid of those split ends. Secondly, make sure to have your hair deep conditioned.

Here are a few links on my site to help you out.
