Protein Overload

by Sameerah
(Philadelphia)

I was experiencing shedding which I normally do and very dry hair, I decided to use a protein to stop the shedding (it was probably normal shedding)I used Nexxus Emergencee twice (i followed up with biolage conditioning balm.) I skipped a week so i actually used it twice in one month.....now, my hair is breaking like crazy.

My hair never breaks and I'm am losing my mind. I did discontinue use and I've started deep conditioning weekly with the Biolage Conditioning balm and Phytokarite. I've been using Phyto 9 for daily moisture and sealing it with Aveda Emolient. It's still breaking.

The shampoo I use is Phytonectar. My hair is currently bra strap length and I'm scared it's gonna be shoulder length soon...any suggestions?

First, Determine Why Your Hair is Breaking
by: Nina, Editor LHHA

Hi,

A couple of things you can look at to see why your hair is breaking.

*What kind of breakage? Long pieces of breakage? Breakage the varies in length? Or shorter pieces of breakage?
*When is the last time that you trimmed your hair? No amount of deep conditioning will keep your hair from breaking off at the splits.
*What are you doing to your hair after deep conditioning? Are you using a leave-in conditioner? Are you using a moisturizer? With the winter, you may want to step it up a notch. Moisturize section by section concentrating on your ends.
*How much heat are you using on your hair? Is your flat iron too hot? Do you flat iron your hair too frequently?

These are just some things you could look at that could be causing the breakage. I wouldn't suggest using any more protein treatments until you determine exactly WHY your hair is breaking. In the meantime, continue to deep condition using the heat of a hooded dryer for at least 15-20 minutes.
