Relaxed hair for year and im ready for a change

by bria
(new york)

Well, I'm a young girl. I'm 15 and for my 16th birthday (in 9 months) I want a change that doesn't damage my hair as much as a relaxer. My hair has never been past my shoulders and I want longer hair.

So last month I made the choice to grow out my hair. Is braiding my hair during the 10 month transition good? And when my hair is at its length I want to get a texturizer. What's exactly is a texturizer? Is it damaging to my hair? And anything else I should know about texturizers?

Transition with Braids to Texturizer
by: Nina, LHHA

Hi Bria,

Lots of people wear braids while they transition from natural to relaxed hair. I have an article here that can help you to wear your braids safely.

A texturizer is basically a relaxer. It is just not left on your hair long enough to completely straighten it. It just loosens the curl a little bit.

To get your hair texturized, make sure to go to a professional to have it done. Texturizers need to be applied carefully to ensure it's timed just right so that the hair doesn't get too straight. A texturizer is no more damaging than a relaxer. The same chemical is used and the same precautions should be taken.

Here's an article with more information:
