Relaxed to Texturized

by Bria
(Longview, TX )

Hello Nina,

I am fully African American and I currently have relaxed hair. However, my relaxer is about to wear off in the next couple of weeks and I'm wanting to put a texturizer on it. How long should I wait after my relaxer has worn off to put the texturizer on my hair?

Also, I'm thinking about using the Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Texturizer on my hair and I was wondering, to make my hair look like the lady's on the box would I have to use a set of spiral rods or should the texturizer do that.

Thank You.

Hi Bria,

I am not sure what you mean by your relaxer "wearing off." A relaxer can not wear off. It is a permanent state of the hair once the chemical has been applied. The only hair that will not be relaxed will be whatever new hair has grown in since the time of the relaxer.

Please, please do not put a texturizer over your relaxed hair. This is a recipe for disaster.

If you want to go from a bone straight relaxed look to a more texturized look - meaning leaving in some of your natural curls, you can ask your stylist to being not leaving the relaxer in your hair too long.

Are you having a stylist do your relaxer? Box relaxers from the drugstore are not very good for hair.

With wanting to change how your hair texture looks, I recommend you have a stylist work with you to ensure that you receive desirable results.

Good Luck
