Rollersetting very long, full hair

by yamilee
(NYC )

I used to rollerset my hair regularly, with decent results, when my hair was shoulder-length to mid-back-length. The minimum amount of time I ever spent under a hard bonnet dryer was an hour and a half, when my hair was at its shortest (about a couple of inches below shoulder length).

As my hair grew longer, rollersetting became ever more difficult - the hair was wrapped around the 2-inch rollers too much to ever get dry, sometimes three hours would elapse under the dryer and my hair was still damp! My head could not fit under the supposedly "extra-large" bonnet when I used 3-inch rollers. Actually, I could not really fit all my hair onto rollers when I tried to use the 3-inch size. So I gave up rollersetting.

Now my hair is waist length, and when I want to have a straight look, I use a blow dryer, but my ends always look terrible afterward. I feel the blow dryer is far more damaging, so I only use it once every three or four months. I much preferred the results when I rollerset. I have seen pictures of other women with waist-length hair who are able to rollerset their hair, and I would love to know how they do it.

Hi Yamilee,

I feel your pain! When I first started rollersetting my hair, it took 1.5 hours. Now it takes 2.25 hours! I have a very hard time fitting all of the rollers.

Are you using magnetic rollers or mesh rollers? If you're using magnetic rollers, your hair will probably never dry b/c there is not enough airflow. Try using the largest mesh rollers you can find. I think the ones I use are 2 inches. These have a lot more airflow so that your hair will dry faster.

Also, you might want to look into using different types of rollers for setting. Such as flexi rods. I know a lot of ladies use these b/c your hair dries faster in that it's wrapped around the roller only once.

Another thing you can try is while making sure your hair is really wet, don't over-wet it.

Please give those a try and let me know how it works out for you.
