Rumpelstiltskin turned Goldie Locks into Straw

Goldie Locks Restored

I always had long naturally curly hair and kept very good care of it. For a change of looks, now and then, I'd let my stylist blow dry my hair out straight.

Well, I heard about this Korean hair salon that only charged $50 for a cut, color and style so I switched and went every three weeks to get my grey roots touched up. They talked me into highlights and I liked how it looked so every 3 weeks I would go and they would do the roots, do the highlights and straighten out my hair. Well, I noticed that they did full highlights every time instead of just touching up the roots (although I didn't now at the time, that this is how it's supposed to be done.) I also noticed that they OVER dryed my hair with a blow dryer until it was bone dry. They kept going over the same sections over and over again and when I tried to tell them, they didn't understand my English and I felt embarassed telling them what to do. Then, after the blow dry, they would use a flat iron and again go over and over and over again on the same sections of hair. Well, after six months of this (my last appontment with them) it seemed that overnight my hair turned to straw. It literally felt like straw. I was so upset! It took a good six month of no highlighting, no blow drying, protein packs, deep conditioning treatments and leave in conditioners for it to feel like hair again. I blame myself because I didn't want to hurt their feelings by complaining yet each time I sat in the chair I was nervous and anxious but didn't speak up.

Now, I never blow dry my hair - I let it dry naturally. I didn't get highlights for 5 years, now I have face framing highlights which I make sure my new stylist only touches up the roots on. I use leave in conditioner or jojaba oil to protect my hair. It's still kind of dry but I think that's partially due to the aging process.

Moral of this story is to stand up for yourself and you get what you pay for!!!
