Scalp diseases – have you had one? If you ever experienced redness, itchiness, flaking or scaling of the scalp, then there is a huge possibility that you! I know what must be going through your mind at this moment- how could I have gotten this, what was I doing wrong, what should I have done. All these questions are fair and can be answered.
The first thing you should know is, you’re not alone and in fact, many other women experience scalp diseases. In fact, it has been reported that approximately 4.7 Americans suffer from scalp infections. But what causes it?
But before we can get into what causes such diseases, we need to consider the types. The most common ones include dandruff, scaling Eczema, fungal infections, psoriasis, dermatitis and hair loss.
Causes of Scalp Conditions
As you might be aware of already, dandruff is the build up of dead skill cells expelled from the outermost layer of the scalp. It is caused by hormones and oily skin, excessive use of shampoos, microscopic fungi and skin diseases. Are you still with me ladies? Great!
Did you also know that scaling eczema is also caused by fungi on the scalp? Yes it is, and it also one of the most common forms of eczema and could simply look like a rash.
Both of these conditions cause a lot of itching on the skin so you'll know something is going on.
More importantly, as women have been noted to react more attached to our hair than men do, there should be no hesitation on your part to control that heart-wrenching scalp infection, hair loss! Hair loss is due to a disease that can and should be addressed, that is, a skin or metabolic illness.
Now for the fun part! This involves treating and preventing scalp infections.
Treatment for Diseases of the Scalp
I know you might be wondering what is fun in this but when you are able to prevent and get rid of something this yucky, why wouldn’t it be fun? As they say prevention is better than cure, there is no better way to prevent scalp infections other than keeping your hair and scalp clean.
Even if it costs you the extra money to make regular visits to a salon, hasn’t it been said that beauty costs? Just remember shampooing your hair too often might give you a scalp infection so do it moderately.
If you have contracted a scalp infection, the best thing to do is to visit your physician where she/he can prescribe and recommend steroid creams, anti-fungal shampoos, oils, ointments as well as vitamin D-derived creams to rid you of your scalp diseases and bring your hair back to life!
