Shampoo and Conditioner

Making sure you have the right shampoo and conditioner for hair can be a little daunting at first and possibly expensive. Though, it doesn't have to be either. One quick tip to make this easy is to stick to one hair care line since in most cases, they are meant to work together. Once you decide upon a line, you are ready to pick the best shampoo and conditioner.

Clarifying Shampoo

If you're going to spend a little extra money on anything, it should be your clarifying shampoo. Some hair product information you may encounter may say the exact opposite - that it doesn't matter. However, clarifying shampoos can be extremely stripping and drying. I would choose a high quality clarifying conditioner. Look at the ingredients and make sure it does not include sodium lauryl sulfate which is a very harsh cleanser. You want something gentle yet effective enough to remove styling product build-up. Many salon shampoo brands have more gentle clarifying ingredients.

Moisturizing Shampoo

You can't get by with a gentle clarifying shampoo alone. No matter how gentle it is, you should still follow it up with a moisturizing shampoo. When using moisturizing shampoos, your hair should not feel dry and tangly when it's rinsed. It should feel clean and moisturized.

Moisturizing Conditioner

A moisturizing conditioner should help your hair to feel moist and conditioned; not weighed down and greasy. There are a ton of moisturizing conditioners at beauty supply stores, health food stores, drugstores, and salons. Try not to become a product junkie while trying out various conditioners to see which one is right for you.

Leave In Hair Conditioner

There are different types of leave-in hair conditioners: creamy and liquid. Depending on the style you're looking for, one might work better than the other. For instance, I prefer to use a creamy leave-in when I'm wearing my hair in a curly style because of the weight it gives my curls. When I am wearing my hair straightened, a liquid leave-in conditioner works well by not weighing my hair down.

Deep Conditioner

A few times a month to every week, you should deep condition your hair. When choosing a deep conditioner, look for one that is specifically made for deep conditioning. Some regular conditioners, indicate that you can deep condition with them by leaving them in longer for sitting under a dryer. I'd still recommend having a deep conditioner made specifically for this purpose.

Protein Hair Treatment

In addition to a deep moisturizing conditioner, your hair product arsenal should also include a protein hair treatment. These are especially important for those of you with damaged hair. Protein helps build back up the hair cuticle to be stronger. The effects are not permanent but will last till you next shampoo. Remember to use a protein hair treatment regularly and follow it up with a moisturizing conditioner to avoid dryness.

Conclusion

Shopping to buy shampoo and conditioner for hair can and will be fun! Now that you know what you need to look for, you can try to find a line that has all the products available. If you can't, it is ok to mix and match products for your hair. Shampoo and conditioner are pretty easy to mix between product lines.

Don't forget that any shampoo and conditioner for hair should be specially catered to your hair type, texture and needs!
