Shampoo for Swimmers
You’ll want to use a special shampoo for swimmers if you are a swimmer and want to take preventive measures to avoid your hair from drying out. Your hair is like a dry sponge that absorbs water and everything in it including chlorine.
Chlorine in pools can create sebum, oil that lubricates your hair shaft, to build up your follicles. As time goes by, hair follicles can become clogged, causing further damage on your hair.
After taking a dip in the pool, make sure that you use clarifying shampoo with the main ingredient EDTA or Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid. It removes chlorine remnants on your hair.
Chlorine in swimming pools will not cause hair loss but it can still damageyour hair. Chlorine sucks out the moisture of your hair – making it brittle. You should also wet oyur hair before plunging in the pool so that your hair will be saturated with water and will not absorb as much chlorine when you swim.
An inexpensive alternative to hair treatments is baking soda. You can put ¼ cup of baking soda in your swimmers shampoo or just ordinary shampoo. If you use this formula once a week, it can remove impurities which came from the chlorinated water. You can also mix this with conditioner to provide your hair more body and volume.
If you swim a lot, you should consider using shampoo for swimmers because it is specially designed for your lifestyle and it contains ingredients that will clean your hair thoroughly, removing chemicals that get stuck while you were swimming. You do not have to buy expensive products but you should pay attention to the quality of the shampoo that you do purchase.
