Straightening Curly Hair

You most likely want to learn about straightening curly hair when your hair isn't naturally straight, . While curly hair is beautiful in its natural  state, curly hair can also be gorgeous when it has been straightened. Let's find out some of the various ways of getting straight hair.

How to Straighten Hair with a Round Brush

When straightening curly hair, you can sometimes get away with simply using a blow dryer. Of course, this will depend on just how curly your hair is as well as the texture of your hair. The best way to blow dry curly hair is to use a blow dryer along with a round brush. The round brush will help to pull and straighten the roots gently while the blow dryer assists by adding heat.

It’s best to have your hair in sections as you do this starting in the back. It may be hard to get the hang of this at first but with a little practice, you can be a pro!

A neat way to learn how to blow dry your hair using a round brush is to simply watch your stylist do it. The next time you visit your stylist, have him or her explain step by step what they are doing. Just tell them that you are trying to learn how to blow dry your hair yourself in case of emergency.

It’s also a good idea to find out the products that they are using so that you can purchase the same ones. You’ll be halfway there with knowing the products AND techniques that work for your hair.

Straightening Curly Hair with a Flat Iron

If your hair is extremely curly and coarse, you will probably need to use a flat iron in order to get the level of straightness that you’re looking for. Some women use flat irons as a regular way of managing curly hair. Make sure you buy a professional flat iron. You’ll want to spend at least 80 dollars to get a high-quality flat iron that won’t ruin your precious curls.

Be sure to have your hair conditioned and in good health before attempting to straighten with a flat iron. You’ll also want to start with a lower setting and work your way up as necessary so as not to burn your hair.

The best technique to use is to do your hair in sections of 4 and then further divide those sections into one-inch sections that you flat iron piece by piece until you’re all done. Lastly, be sure to use some type of heat protectant such as a serum or heat-protecting spray.

Hair Straightening with Relaxers

Some women with extremely curly or kinky hair want to know about straightening curly hair with relaxers.  I’d strongly recommend that you research relaxing your hair completely before deciding to do that as a method of straightening your hair.

Remember, relaxing hair using  a chemical called lye that cannot be reversed.  I receive questions all the time from people wondering how to get the relaxer out of their hair. There isn’t a way besides cutting it out. Therefore, to keep your hair versatile, you can learn to straighten your hair using a blow dryer and/or a flat iron.

You can also have this done professionally on for special occasions. This way, you have the best of both worlds!

Conclusion

If you decide to use straightening as a method of styling for your curly hair, you’ll want to take extra special care of your hair. Straightening can put a lot of stress on hair so you must make sure to use products that protect against heat when straightening.

You should also make sure to use deep conditioner and masks to keep your hair fully moisturized. If your hair is dry, it will damage much more easily when being straightened.

If you're keen on straightening curly hair, remember to always take extra special care of your hair no matter how you decide to straighten it.
