The Tiger Skunk
by Kim
(Canada)
No pic of the aforementioned disaster ...
Big mistake going to a hairdressing school to go blonde... my bad.
I had tried it myself (with predictable pumpkin results) but figured if I had to let a stylist do it, I could save money at a school...
The girl said my hair would look better once it dried. In its wet stage, I had bright orange lengths with vertical, neon yellow stripes. My head looked like a bird cage.
The roots were almost pure white. The only thing that looked half-decent about the wet hair was the lack of fuzz, but once it did dry out, I had zebra peach-head.
As well, my hair felt like slimy cotton, and there was no way a comb would go through it.
I can't recall what I did about it, but today it's a very nice honey-beige with lighter streaks, which I did on my own, after years of trial and many MANY errors. My goal is platinum - I had it last year but thought a semi-permanent brown would be okay for a while, but it didn't fade out as expected - and I'm a few levels away from it. I hope by this fall it will be the shade I'm after, and I refuse to do it in one treatment. I have nice, just-past-shoulder-length hair with some wave and body, and I want to let it grow.
At the tiger skunk incident, which was over 20 years ago, it was very dark brown. It's grey now, so the point of blonding is to blend in the roots almost imperceptibly. If I quit colouring it from here on, I could probably live with it, but the cast is slightly caramel and it bugs me.
How long until I give into the urge to lighten it again?
