Thirsty in Md

(Clinton, M)

Yes, yes, yes. My hair needs moisture daily. So, I may already be doing what this challenge is encouraging. I use Carol's Daughter Hair Milk usually. Sometimes I may add a little Hair Balm or Margarite's Magic. I pin curl most evenings because it is too short for a decent ponytail or wrap style just yet. I try to sit for a few minutes under a heat cap most evenings because my hair is so dry. I find that the heat cap is a tremendous help. If I don't use the heat cap the pin curls aren't as bouncy and by the end of the day, my hair is parched again. With the heat cap, it is still somewhat dry but not nearly as dry as it is without it.

I have kinky curly hair. I stopped using relaxers several years ago. However, I used hot combs, flat irons and curling irons as a staple in my styling routine for many years. So I think the constant dryness may be a lingering byproduct of too much heat. I've been wet setting my hair since May 2009 when I discovered this fabulous website. I am hopeful that with time the dryness will significantly improve.

Is there anyone with hair similar to mine who switched from regularly using heat styling methods to using heat free styling methods that can tell me what to expect? What are others doing to moisturize their hair? I'd really like to know.

I posted the original message. I have used low heat only once since May 2009 to attend a formal with my husband. That formal was Jan 2010. The interesting thing I've learned is that my heat damaged ends do not revert completely. So, I have employed some of the insights and tips posted by ladies transitioning from chemical relaxers. When I started this journey, I had not anticipated that I would be experiencing some of the same challenges as those transitioning from chemical relaxers. I am really excited about the prospect of having the beautiful coily hair I had as a child.

Learning about rollersetting from this site was the start of my journey. Thanks, Nina.
