Vetiver Essential Oil
Vetiver essential oil, also called khus oil, has been utilized by generations of mothers, grandmothers and indigenous physicians in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. The honey-colored and textured oil is taken from the roots of the Vetivera zizanoides or more commonly known as Khus Khus grass.
This essential oil has two uses, first as a base note for Oriental perfumes and second in Holistic Aromatherapy as relaxing oil.
The exotic complex aroma profile of the Vetiver oil makes it an ideal base oil to anchor many different kinds of scents. Although it has its own sweet and earthy tonality, this oil also has the unique quality of not over-powering other scents that are mixed with it.
In this manner, the Vetiver enhances the fragrance of other oils by harmonizing with them instead of dominating the infusion. This oil is frequently blended with Jasmine, Rose, Ylang-ylang, Lavender, Orange and Sandalwood to name a few.
Vetiver pure essential oil is also regularly used in holistic aromatherapy for its relaxing properties. The main characteristic of this essential oil is that it helps the body and mind to release heat. Hence, it is often used for headaches, fever and heatstroke.
Its relaxing properties also help relieve other conditions such as muscle aches, stiffness, sprains, and rheumatism. Many massage and bath oils have the Vetiver oil as one of its ingredients.
Vetiver oil has also been for generations used for its antiseptic properties, and mothers in the orient have used it to treat eczema, wounds, acne and other skin irritations.
