What Causes Dandruff
What causes dandruff is the question you ask when you decide to wear that little black dress tonight on that date. When you suddenly see it -- all those little white flakes falling on your shoulders like a fresh fallen snow…Now what?
Not to worry, this isn’t something that is going to make your hair fall out, or give you “bad hair days”, it’s just a little dry scalp.
Dandruff is just something that happens to everyone at some point or another. A lot of women get dry scalp in the winter time; especially if you live somewhere that gets very dry, and bitterly cold.
Flaky, dry scalp is due to different types of dry skin, including eczema, psoriasis.
Psoriasis
Don’t know what psoriasis is? Well it isn’t anything fun, but it won’t kill you either. Psoriasis is a skin disorder that basically, is an accumulation of dead skin cells that form thick silvery scales. In most cases, you get this on your elbows and knees, but you can get it on your scalp too. Sometimes, if you aren’t shampooing your hair enough, all that dirt and oil will build up on your scalp and flake. In this case, getting rid of dandruff is simple.
I know it’s really gross, and super embarrassing to see those white flakes on your shoulder, or to be scratching your head constantly from the dryness. There are easy things you can do to rid yourself of dry scalp and end the flakiness.
Shampooing...or Not Shampooing
If you aren’t prone to dry skin, or if you are adamant about shampooing every day, take a look at your shampoo products. Check the ingredients as this could be something as simple as an allergic reaction to your hair products. An easy treatment for dandruff!
Did you know shampooing too much or using too many hair products can cause dandruff too? Who knew!
Dry Scalp from Yeast
There is one condition you may want to check on. It is actually a yeast-like fungus that grows on your scalp (yuck!) It is called Malazessia. It lives on a lot of adult scalps without causing any major issues. But it can get out of control. It feeds on the oils in your hair and on your scalp. If this is the case with your dandruff, don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you are dirty and gross. The cause of this isn’t exactly known.
It can happen due to illness, or changes in hormones, and several other biological things. This is the one case when you might want to ask a doctor to handle the fungus, but it is treatable.

Well, just because you can’t wear that little black dress tonight, doesn’t mean this is a permanent status. You will be looking good and flirting in no time!
