What is Dandruff?
What is dandruff? This question must have originated in your mind a thousand times and the simple answer is that it is just a layer of dead skin cells on the scalp.
Most people have dandruff whether visible or hidden. Sometimes white flakes appear on one’s head which is an obvious case of dandruff. More severe cases of dandruff are also present in which even big lumps of dandruff can be seen.
About Dandruff
Pityriasis- capitis and Seborrhea dermatitis are the two types of dandruff.
The first one is the thick and oily dandruff which seems crusted and it occurs when the skin of the scalp is very oily. Whereas the second one that is Seborrhea dermatitis contains dry and white flakes of dandruff which may fall on our shoulders and it is mainly caused by dry scalp.
Although the exact cause is not yet known but it is believed that the health of scalp and diet plays an important role in determining the flaky scalp condition.
Unlike other diseases, dandruff is not contagious and can be treated effectively. There are various levels of treatments, for example for milder cases even shampooing one’s hair might be enough to remove dandruff completely.
