What Part of "a little bit" didn't you understand???

by Eileena
(Michigan)

Very recently, I went to my hairdresser to get a wash and style. I have been growing my hair out and my goal has ultimately been to get my hair past the middle of my back. Well, the day that I went into my hairdresser, my hair was quite long, in fact, it only needed to grow 3-4 more inches and it would be past the middle of my back...Great that's about 1 more years worth of growth.

Well, I knew that my ends needed to be trimmed, and my hairstylist mentions this to me...So I say to her, ok, but only trim a very little bit, and I showed her with my fingers what a 1/2" trim would look like to me. Well, I should have known, NEVER, let anyone trim my hair but me.

As she started clipping, I thought, wow, it seems like she is cutting way to much, but I didn't want to panic....boy do I wish I had. When she got done cutting my hair, I just about cried!!!!

She cut my hair to shoulder length!!! She cut 4 inches of hair!!! I am still not over this. On top of that, its just an ugly blunt cut! No style to it at all. I am so miserable right now because I don't know what to do with my hair....I am so used to feeling it down my back, that I feel like something is missing. Talk about depressed and angry, that's me!

Lesson learned is that I will be the one that trims my ends from now on. I am now taking vitamins to grow my hair out faster (I hope)...but it will be at least 1 year before my hair is back where it was. I cry inside whenever I comb or look at my hair.....

Oh No, You Too!!!

Probably everyone that has visited a salon have had the experience of having their hair cut shorter than requested. I know I have. After four years of being with the same stylist and getting the same style, I decided to change up my hairstyle. I went into the salon with a picture from a hair book with a bob with a swoop bang. I requested that cut. Well my stylist did what she felt would look good on me. She gave me short chinese bangs because that is what she preferred. I was so upset because she did not provide the service I requested and my hair cut was ugly. It took me almost a year to grow my bangs out. I showed my dissatisfaction with my wallet and switched to another stylist. I have come to conclude that not every stylist enjoys their job and it will show up in their work. Some stylist are constantly improving their techniques by going to hair shows and learning new things. I found a stylist that specializes in cuts and takes her work very seriously. She faces you to a mirror while she cuts your hair so u can see how much she is taking off. Before she starts cutting she always ask the customer to measure out how much of their hair they want cut. I am very happy with my new stylist.

I have never cut off 4 inches when asked to trim hair, Not ever. People there is a ruler made onto the comb. If a person takes off that much hair then Im guessing that they accidentily cut too much in a certain area and had to commit to that length. In beauty school my INSTRUCTOR took my hair from mid back to shoulders with big hunks cut out of it. To fix this horrible cut i had to get something like victoria beckham.I still havent grown it out yet....

Sister, I feel ya...

The SAME thing happened to me, but with a twist. I have had 2 haircuts this year. The first one was in the summer combined with a "trim", but it was about 3-4 inches off in certain spots. The style was cute so I really didn't notice how much was cut until I tried to put my hair in to a ponytail later. Last month, my stylist told me that she was going to cut off 4 inches because it was splitting up the shaft due to skipping trims. I can totally relate to what you're saying. I feel like something is missing, too. My hair hasn't been this short since 1st grade. I really don't know what to do with it. For the first two weeks after the 2nd cut, I wanted to cry also every time I looked at it. We will get through this, and prayerfully, our hair will grow back thicker and stronger. :) Just know that you are not alone.

by: Anonymous

that happened 2 me 1ce. the hair dresser i went to, she just started cutting it of and she told me not 2 look back. when she was done, i almost cried. the next day i did not want 2 take my cap off. it was nearly past my breast, down my back, and it was should length n a min. smh now i'm learning to take better care of my hair: deep conditioner w. keratin, rosemary oil and carrott. i use tresemme moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. i deep contidition it every 2 weeks, and i use lustrasilk w carrott oil. but now since i'm out, i have pantene hair mask so i wanna use it up. but i hope your hair grows back and i hope i helped so b.c. my hair grew back eventually. those r my few tip. Good luck!!!!!!

I had the same done to me!

I hope and pray that your hair grows back faster and longer than ever before! I had someone chop my hair off in high-school, just before the prom! You talking about *****! I cried, and walked around with a handkerchief on my head, while my mom cursed the stylist out on the phone and threatened his life. He of course apologized and offered to do my hair for free, but I refused to go back. Your hair will grow back, have faith, and please be strong. I have been there...I do my own hair now (for the last 4 years) because I just dont trust salons. My best friend Martina told me that she read somewhere that some cruel stylists will purposely cut your hair more than you requested, and also tell clients that their hair is in poor condition, and they need to come back for further treatments. They lie! I just dont trust any of them. Since I've been doing my own hair, its never been this long and healthy. Hang in there Sista, OK! Hug, Angie

Heartbreak

I am so sorry to read your post. This is just awful. But why didn't you say something when you started to feel uncomfortable? Maybe the stylist picked a point where all the hair was healthy and cut to there, so no more thin ends or unevenness or v-shaped back. Maybe she didn't mean to cut as much and messed up? Maybe your hair wasn't in as good shape as you thought. All of this could have been communicated. I wonder sometimes whether its the stylists who don't want to be honest with clients or the clients who don't have the courage to demand satisfaction. Don't go back to that stylist. And if you must, tell her that you are upset with her. If a bank tripled its fees, you wouldn't let it go. You'd fight for your hard earned money - so fight for your hard earned hair!
