Worms Aren't Just For Fishing
by Mekel
(Flint, MI)
I am a first grade elementary school teacher. In the teaching profession (as everyone knows), I educate diverse cross sections of children. Prior to teaching, I must admit I was a bit naive as to certain ills and aliments that particularly effect white children (i.e., head lice, ringworm, thrash,etc.).
Upon leaving my building one Friday afternoon (anticipating my weekend "wind down"), I was horrified to notice a red, nickle sized, circular ring on the top of my hand. To embarrassed to approach any of my colleagues, I rushed home in disgust and fear. A very close male friend of mine told me that there was a strong likelihood that I had contracted ringworm from one of my students. He also lent the "hood" cure for this fungus :). I simply applied bleach directly to the ringworm. The bleach literally "fried" the heck out of that little bugger instantaneously. I continued this practice throughout the weekend and felt relatively good about the results.
Fast forward 2 months...
I am the type of sista who is natural but yet very versatile. I change my look (hair) often. In saying this, I am very perceptive to my hair's overall condition (i.e., scalp, breakage, ends, etc.). I noticed a small pimple on my scalp after removing some zillions. After 2-3 addtional hairstyles, the pimple began to itch. I thought that this was perhaps a symptom of dry scalp and/or scalp irritation because of the varying styles and stress to the hair/scalp. With the passing of an additional 3-4 weeks, the pimple had grown, begun to itch ridiculously and the hair in that area was thinning. The pimple had also taken on an all too familiar shape. After consulting a dermatologist-you guessed it scalp ringworm (ugh-yuck!!) I never took the proper steps in curing the ringworm on my hand;therefore, the fungus festered in my body and literally spread to the parts that were most vulnerable.
I am blessed to say that today I am completely ringworm free (hooray!!!). The antibiotics and ringworm itself did take a toll on my scalp;however, I am a happy, nappy, fungi-free sista (LOL)!
